X-ray Centre for Lake Bosumtwe
It was an almost unbearably hot day at Lake Bosumtwe as Juliana, Lucas and I met Dr. Eric Addison (Medical Physicists at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi) and Dr. Cam Gongwer (our field leader and family medicine doctor at Ankaase Methodist Faith Healing Hospital) to determine what work is needed before a donated x-ray unit can be installed at the Lake Bosumtwe clinic.
There is a building that can be adapted for this purpose, so that is a good start. It will need a small addition, electricity run to it, as well as water run to the building.
All total the project will cost around $6,000-$8,000 dollars and it will really help the people of the area as it will be the only one for the district.
Good news that we found out at this meeting though is that they have found a man who will move there to be a lab technician, and he can be trained to be the x-ray technician as well.
It's really tough to get Ghanaians to want to live/work out there.
We are still in our language, culture and professional learning time so we are not actively working there yet.
Pray for the water project that started one year ago. They had a well (what they call a bore hole) drilled a year ago and they are waiting for it to be completed by the government. Some men in one of our partner churches are willing get it functioning, yet we are awaiting their part being finished though. SO...this let's you know that I will be involved in running pipes to the buildings on this hillside - out of my league, yet it will happen with His strength.
